How to create an Adaptive Ad Unit on Publisher’s Dashboard — Step-by-Step Guide
What is an Adaptive Ad Unit?
An Adaptive ad unit automatically adjusts to the available space on the user’s device (desktop, tablet, mobile). It uses flexible sizes and breakpoints so ads fit your layout, improving user experience and increasing fill rates and revenue.
Creating an Adaptive Ad Unit on Bitmedia
- Create a publisher account on Bitmedia and submit your website or app for moderation.
- Wait for approval from Bitmedia via email.
- Open the publisher blocks page: https://bitmedia.io/app/publisher/blocks and click “+ New Ad Unit”.
- Enter a name for the ad unit and select “Adaptive Ad Unit”.
- Choose Ad Unit sizes — specify one size for desktop and one for mobile. Choose sizes that match your layout (examples: desktop 728×90 or 970×250; mobile 320×50 or 300×250). The unit will serve the best creative based on the visitor’s screen size.
- Set Backup Ads — configure a fallback (URL/image) to show when no ads are available. For details on configuring backup ads, see the Set Backup Ads section in our guide or follow the instructions below:
Backup ads are alternative ads that will be displayed if there are no targeted ads available to fill the ad unit.
There are 4 options:
- Bitmedia referral
- Google AdSense
- HTML code
- HTML and JS code
Select one and press “Continue”.
- Save the ad unit. The platform will generate the HTML/snippet for this unit.
- Implement the generated HTML on your website or in your app where you want the ad to appear.
Implementation Tips
- Place the generated code inside a responsive container in your layout. Ensure the container can resize so the adaptive unit can adjust correctly.
- If your CMS or ad manager strips <script> tags, use the supported integration method (check your platform docs).
- Test the ad unit by resizing the browser and using mobile device emulation in dev tools.
- Check for ad blockers and testing in an incognito window with blockers disabled.
