How to Create Audiences and Set Up the Retargeting Campaign — Step-by-Step Guide
What is an Audience? An audience in Bitmedia dashboard is a custom group of users who share certain characteristics, typically connected by specific interactions with your advertisements. For example, these users may have clicked on your ad, viewed your creative content, or visited your landing page.
Creating audience segments helps categorize users based on their behavior, making it valuable for retargeting in future campaigns
Setting Up Your Audience Collection
Follow these steps to create your own audience for retargeting purposes:
1. Access the Audiences Section
- Open Bitmedia dashboard
- Click on 'Audiences'
- Select 'Add Audience'
2. Configure Audience Settings
- Audience Name: Create a descriptive name that clearly identifies this segment
- Description: Provide details about this audience based on their actions
- Period of Validity: Determine how often your audience should be updated (daily or hourly)
- Target Type: Choose one of the following options:Group IDs - Collect users by Ad GroupsCreative IDs - Collect users by specific creativesCampaign IDs - Collect users by Ad campaignsJS Code - Collect users via custom JavaScript code
3. JS Code Implementation (if applicable)
If you select JS Code as your target type:
- Copy the generated code from your dashboard
- Paste it on your website where you want to collect audience data
- Bitmedia will begin collecting your audience data regardless of whether you're currently purchasing traffic
- This collected audience can be used for future Bitmedia traffic campaigns
4. Define Collection Parameters
In the last field, select the specific Group, Creative, or Campaign from which to collect your audience
Specify the quantitative thresholds for Impressions and/or Clicks that will determine audience inclusion
5. Activate Your Audience
- Click "Save" to create your audience
- Contact your Account Manager or Bitmedia Support team to get the Audience approved and ready to be used
- Toggle the audience to "On" to begin collecting users based on your defined criteria
Once activated, your audience will start populating with users who meet your specified criteria. This valuable data can then be used for more targeted advertising in your retargeting campaigns. Here's how to implement retargeting effectively:
Creating a Dedicated Retargeting Ad Group
Start by creating a new ad group specifically for retargeting users from your collected audience:
- Create a new campaign or open an existing one
- Add a new ad group dedicated to retargeting efforts
- Give your ad group a descriptive name (e.g., "Retargeting - Product Viewers")
Configuring Campaign Settings
In the Targeting section, set up your preferred campaign parameters:
- Geo-targeting: Select relevant geographic locations
- Frequency Capping: Control how often users see your ads
- Budget Pacing: Manage your daily or overall campaign spending
Adding Your Audience
The key difference for retargeting campaigns is audience selection:
- Go to the "Audiences" section within Targeting
- Click "Add Audience"
- Select the audience you previously created
- Confirm your audience selection
Finalizing Your Retargeting Campaign
Complete your campaign setup with these final steps:
- Upload your retargeting-specific banner creatives
- Add the destination URL for your landing page
- Review all settings for accuracy
- Launch your campaign
